ISSUE
In Vietnam and Cambodia, rural populations generally don’t have access to technical skill education. Most of them work in fields, which doesn’t allow them to earn enough money to send their children to school.
SOLUTION
Mekong+ trains workers living in remote areas to make handcrafted objects such as bamboo bikes, quilts or water hyacinth bags, which are then sold in the touristic areas of the country. This initiative allows families to earn more money and to send their children to school, which is one of Mekong+’s requirements.
A POSITIVE ENGINEERING PROJECT
- Offering craft skills to the population so it can have more stable jobs
- Using local resources like bamboo
- Encouraging an ecofriendly means of transport
- Fighting the lack of school attendance
